It is cute and has a good lesson behind it

This book describes the messy fast paced life of most children. It is cute and has a good lesson behind it. This book can be used in the classroom to help with student organization. Sometimes classrooms, especially in younger grades, can get really messy because things aren't put back where they are supposed to go, and kids get in such a rush they forget to clean up. So by reading this book and showing that cleaning and organizing can have a positive impact you and your students can start an annual cleaning day for each month. Start that day by finding a place for everything, get the students input, have them help make colorful and creative labels, and then sit back down and admire your handiwork. Then for the res of the month make sure to have students put things in their places as best as they can. By the time the next cleaning day comes around, the better job they did putting things away each day, the less they have to clean on cleaning day. And as the Bears said, it is a lot more fun to play and work in a clean environment.

Get it from the Library first

I did not end up reading this book to my son. Some of the classic berenstain bear books have parts that I do not think are appropriate to read to a young child and this book is one of them. Of course it is 100 percent up to the parents judgement on what they think will bother their child or not. The part that I didn't want to show my son is where the mom angrily comes into the room and threatens to get rid of their things. I personally don't want my 4 year old son worried that he will lose his things if he doesn't keep his room clean. I don't like any books that instill newfound fears into my son. I recommend getting this book from the library before you commit to purchasing it to see if it is right for your child.

I loved these books when I was a kid and am happy they are still available to my own kids today. Each book teaches a lesson and I definitely would recommend them to anyone!

About the Author
Stan and Jan Berenstain were both born in 1923 in Philadelphia.  They didn't know each other as children, but met later at school, at the Philadelphia College of Art.  They liked each other right away, and found out that the both enjoyed the same kinds of books, plays, music and art.  During World War II, Stan was a medical assistant in the Army, and Jan worked in an airplane factory.  When the war was over, they got married and began to work together as artists and writers, primarily drawing cartoons for popular magazines.  After having their two sons Leo and Michael, the Berenstains decided to write some funny children's books that their children and other children could read and enjoy.  Their first published children's book was called The Big Honey Hunt .  It was about a family of bears, who later became known as the "Berenstain Bears".  

Over 50 children's books later, Stan and Jan still plan all of their books together -- both write the stories, and both write the pictures.  They live outside of Philadelphia in the country.

The Bears go sci-fi!

"The Berenstain Bears on the Moon," by Stan and Jan Berenstain, is one of the best in the authors' excellent series of children's books. In this installment, Brother and Sister Bear, accompanied by their excitable pet dog, take a rocket trip to the moon and back.
Although the book's primary purpose is entertainment and literacy education, the Berenstains do get some of the science right. The portray the gravity-free environment of the space ship's interior during the voyage, and they also show that the gravity on the lunar surface is much less than that on Earth.
The book is illustrated in the typically appealing Berenstain Bears style. Particularly fun is the orange, green, and purple-colored rocket ship used by the intrepid space travelers. And the rhymes are equally fun. Example: "Two little bears / and one little pup. / They are off to the moon, / going up, up, up!" This irresistible adventure tale is definitely a high point in a beloved book series.

Although Amazon advertises this book for ages 4-8, my wife and I started reading this and other Stan and Jan Berenstain books to our children from 18 months and up. Always a delight, our kids would laugh at the silliness while learning a lesson about life. We started a great habit of reading two or three books before bed, and the kids loved them. Soon, they would memorize many of the phrases, beginning a lifelong passion for reading.
Every kid should experience reading books by the Berenstains while growing up. The characters are well developed, the rhyming phrases help kids become enthusiastic about reading, and the messages about life make them think. Bears On The Moon got my son and daughter asking questions about space and interested in the great beyond. Combine this with other fun Berenstain Bear books and your kids will sit enthralled as you turn the pages. Highly recommended.

Great Bedtime story

This is a favorite bedtime story that my 4 year old just adores. Ultimately it's about being happy with who you are and it teaches the lesson in a simple, fun to read story.

The first book my child read by herself!

This book is so funny -- as the name of the characters reveal, the Funnybunnies have loads of adventures to which every child can relate.

P.J. isn't happy with his looks. In fact, he despises his long ears and even rejects his cooked carrots at mealtime. He sets off to find his identity by trying out various families in the community. He isn't comfortable with the bears, the birds, the beavers, pigs, possums or moose. Ultimately, P.J. recognizes the merits of being a bunny after all.

This uplifting tale is easy for first readers because of its repetition. Younger siblings will enjoy the brilliant illustrations. Parents will love it for the ability to shout "Mooook" like a moose in the middle of the story.

I'm particularly fond of this book as it is the first book my daughter ever read in English (we are raising them bilingually in Germany).

Hats off to the Funnybunnies, and the author, Marilyn Sadler, who created them.

It may not be easy being a bunny but it sure is fun!

My toddler son received this book as a gift for his first birthday. It came highly recommended from a teen friend who had treasured it as a childhood favorite. We weren't disappointed. I am not sure if it is the language, simple illustrations, or the premise but he never tires of It's Not Easy Being a Bunny. Not only do we recommend this book, we have already purchased it for other first birthday gifts. We give it an unequivocal A+ rating.

Landmark History of the American People

This is a great book to read with your children. The information is presented with an unbiased slant. The black and white pictures are excellent, they really give a feel for the period. A hard back copy would be great.

This is a great history book to read with your children. It offers an interesting information (much of which I did not learn in school) and is unbiased (unlike Story of USA books also recommended by Sonlight.)

Best American Survey

Boorstin produced a readable, enjoyable survey of American History in a short 2 volumes. I would not say that he was unbiased, but that he did an adequate job of showing different viewpoints from the time he covered, with very little emphasis on the Native Americans, unfortunately. Boorstin tells the stories of the cultural, political, and industrial landmarks of the USA. He doesn't linger in any area very long, but creates the desire to further investigate every area. I have loved reading both of these volumes.

About the Author
John Muir (1838-1914) was one of the most influential conservationists and nature writers in American history. He was instrumental in the creation and passage of the National Parks Act, and founder of the Sierra Club, acting as its president until his death. Muir was a spirit so free that all he did to prepare for an expedition was to "throw some tea and bread into an old sack and jump the back fence."

Whether you are interested in John Muir specifically or just want to read about an interesting life, this book is an excellent place to start.
John Muir had an incredible and important life, and it is told here succinctly in his own words, excerpted to emphasize the profound. It is a glimpse into a lifestyle 99.9% of us will never know, yet it is truly important to our times. His love of nature, adventure and exploration is a reminder of why we need to experience more than our 9 to 5 workdays and why we need to apply ourselves to the protection of the Earth.
Muir was a gentle but strong man, a genius with simple needs, solitary yet influential. This book is a terrific way to look into his life and his time and to gain some inspiration into our lives and our times.

About the Author
Emmy Payne comes from a family of published authors and began writing her own stories as a young child. She has also written more than twenty mystery books in collaboration with her mother, Christine Noble Govan.

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in numerous languages. And many, many Curious George books have followed.

Cute Little Story

Katy No-Pocket is a cute story about a mother kangaroo who does not have any pockets to carry her baby, so she searches the town and country to find a solution to her problem. My four-year-old loves the story and asks me to read it over and over. It is just a charming tale without any violent or scary situations.

From the Same Artist as Curious George

This is a really delightful story book illustrated by H.A. Rey, who also created the beloved Curious George books. In the same fun-loving and colorful style, the story of Katy, a mama kanagroo with no pocket for her baby, comes to life. Katy searches high and low and interviews many other kinds of animals to try to find a way to carry her baby, Freddy. In the end she gets some great advice and finds a solution that is pure genius. The story is really cute but H.A. Rey's utterly charming illustrations make this into a treat that should NOT be missed. The details of the various animals are so jolly, the faces so expressive. The pictures just exude happiness. I believe that once you share this with a little one it will become a family favorite.

Fantastic Book for Boys

We loved reading this book as a family to our son when he was 8, and we have given it to other families as their sons approach that age. It is also great for girls, but the concept of young men having to fend for themselves is worthwhile. One can never see the Truckee River the same way, or regard the geology of the Sierra Nevada as such an impediment to crossing the continent. This wagon train was the first to blaze the trail, and was followed two years later by the unfortunate Donner Party. One can understand how difficult the trail was and how stoically courageous the pioneers were.

The Pioneers Go West worked well in my class

I have used The Pioneers Go West as a literature set in my 5th grade classroom for two years now and will continue to do so. The students like the realism and adventure of the story. It was also a good supplement to our study of the Westward Movement. I recommend it to any teacher or student of history!
