It is a children's book which tells the life of a rabbit named Harold. Harold started out to be the smallest rabbit but then an amazing thing started to happen.
About the Author
Bill Peet was the author of 34 books published by Houghton Mifflin. One of these, BILL PEET: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY, was named a 1989 Caldecott Honor Book. All of Bill Peet’s books published by Houghton Mifflin Company, including his first book for children published in 1959, HUBERT'S HAIR-RAISING ADVENTURE, remain actively in print today.
In both his career as an author and illustrator of children’s books and in his work as sketch artist and continuity illustrator at Walt Disney, Bill Peet created a menagerie of memorable characters. As he himself noted, "I write about animals because I love to draw them. Most of my animal characters have human personalities, and some are much like the people I know."
At Walt Disney, where Bill Peet worked for 27 years, he was a key participant in the production of classic films such as Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and 101 Dalmatians for which he was not only an artist, but the screenwriter as well.
Bill Peet’s signature style enabled him to create fast-paced stories of fantastical adventure delivered with warmth and laugh-out-loud hilarity. His unfailing humor did not, however, prevent him from addressing such poignant issues as kindness toward others and respect for the environment. Through the exploits of his characters, Peet offered his audience a chance to see themselves and their world through new eyes.
"At some point," Bill Peet once said, "it occurred to me that drawing was something I couldn’t possibly give up, and somehow it must be turned into a profession." He went on to not only fulfill his dream but to introduce generations of young readers to his delightful vision of humor, friendship and compassion.

Huge Harold - I've Found You!

I am a 41 year old mother of three - when I was a child my mother used to read this book to me MANY times a day. It was by far my all time favorite. My mother passed away not quite a year ago and I thought I would surely find the book when we went through her house - it was nowhere to be found. She probably destroyed it because I'm certain she was very sick of reading it time after time (just kidding). I am purchasing this classic so I can share it with my children. I am sure they will grow to love it just as much as I did! Huge Harold is one of the greatest children's books out there - it is very easy reading and very easy to listen to. The illustrations are wonderful. A double thumbs up to Bill Peet!

Huge Harold

Bill Peet is a fabulous writer. His rhyming technique makes his books easy to read. Huge Harold is my favorite book of Bill Peets by far.... You'll fall in love with Huge Harold. I did. In most of his books you start out feeling sorry for main character, but they all end up on top in the end. It really give you a good feeling inside. There are good morals to his stories, and I enjoy reading every one of them over and over again.

Bill Peet's Books Inspire Young Readers

I am a third grade teacher and each year during the last few weeks of school I have a Bill Peet Week in which I read several of Bill Peet's books to my students. I start with Huge Harold, my personal favorite. Then I bring in my vast collection of Peet books and let the children simply read and enjoy them. They often illustrate their favorite parts. We always watch the video of Bill Peet sitting in his studio drawing some of the characters in his books. The students just love his artwork and his use of rhyming words. Though Bill Peet is no longer with us, his wonderful literature continues to inspire young readers, artists, and writers. I will continue to share his work with my young readers!
